History of Samsun University Faculty of Medicine

With the realisation that the health sector is at the forefront among the “investment areas” in Samsun and that the patient potential of the city is quite high, the necessity of establishing a new Faculty of Medicine in the city has come to the fore in order for the expression of “Health City Samsun”, which has been expressed for a long time, to come to life in a strong way. As a result of the consultations, it was decided that a new Faculty of Medicine would make great contributions to the city of Samsun and Turkey. Later, this opinion was presented to the esteemed deputies who made great efforts in the establishment and subsequent processes of Samsun University. Samsun University Faculty of Medicine, which passed the Higher Education Council in August, was established with the Presidential Decree No. 2916 published in the Official Gazette No. 31230 dated 31.08.2020. Within the framework of the Additional Article 9 of the Basic Law No. 3359 on Health Services and the provisions of the “Regulation on the Procedures and Principles of Cooperation with the Joint Use of the Institutions and Organizations of the Ministry of Health and the Related Units of State Universities” published in the Official Gazette dated 04/03/2020 and numbered 31058, “Joint Use Protocol” was signed between the General Directorate of Public Hospitals of the Ministry of Health and the Rectorate of Samsun University on 17 March 2021 for the joint use of Samsun Training and Research Hospital with Samsun University Faculty of Medicine. Within the scope of this protocol, our faculty members provide education, research and health services within the Ministry of Health Samsun Training and Research Hospital. The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has approved the admission of 41 students to Samsun University Faculty of Medicine from the 2021-2022 academic year.
